Welcome to our Citizen Sociolinguistics 2019 Class Blog! We will be using this on-line space to blog and share our ongoing thoughts and concerns about how we talk about language, that is, citizen sociolinguistics. Each week, two or three class participants will post their thoughts on the topic of the week. I suspect some entries will focus on broad concepts like citizen sociolinguistic arrests, wonderment as a spark for language discussion, the methods and media of citizen sociolinguistics, context collapse, conversational and internet-based feedback loops, or everyday talk about language as acts of citizenship. Some entries may instead (or in addition) focus on everyday language you have noticed--a word or communicative act that has sparked wonderment or drawn criticism.
